Dawn Crawford – Instructor
Dawn Sheree Crawford began her dance training at the age of 8 in Grand Junction, Colorado at Mesa State College. Some classes taken include ballet, jazz, modern and tap. Dawn participated in many summer workshops where different forms of dance were experienced. The workshops brought various guest artists from different parts of the country helping her to add new and exciting forms of dance into her repertoire of movement. Throughout all of her years of dance training, however, ballet remained constant. Each semester concluded with a dance concert where students choreographed and performed original pieces. Dawn performed in numerous dance concerts both as a child and then later as an adult.

Dawn’s main ballet instructor, Ann Sanders, retired from Mesa State College in June of 2005 after 35 years as their Director of Dance and Creator and Artistic Director for the Mesa Repertory Dance Program. Dawn attributes her adherence to and respect for ballet technique necessities to Ms. Sanders. Another main influence came from Miss Dale Lee Niven, a guest artist brought in several times for the summer workshops. This is where she received her love for modern dance. Summer guest artists also included her sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Jef Horne, member of Ballet El Paso, who now own and run a dance studio in Fallon, Nevada.

Missing only two years for purposes of school cheerleading and high school musicals where she used her choreography skills, Dawn’s training was constant for over 10 years. During the summer of her 16th year, Dawn took classes with member of Ballet El Paso in Texas. Years before, Dawn was also able to take a few classes with her sister at the University of Utah.

Dawn continued performing with the Mesa State Repertory Dance Company while she was a student there after graduating high school. After she married, Dawn taught a year of Musical Theater for Mesa State College where she worked with children from ages 5 through 12 on singing and choreography. Dawn has experience choreographing for many performances, including, her high school jazz choir and musicals, church musicals and many other productions. Dawn also taught for over 3 years for Lorrie Revelli at the Dance Connection. As a pre-school teacher at the Children’s School where she taught with Teacher Cheri for 8 years, she involved singing and dancing wherever she could. While one of Dawn’s focuses throughout her life has been in the arts and has been lucky to continue teaching in that area, her husband, Kevin and her four children, Jonathon, Sierra, Ally and Carly remain her main focus.

Darien Osman Mathis - Instructor

Darien joined our team in  the fall of 2007 teaching Hip Hop.  Darien grew up in a small town just twenty minutes south of Las Vegas Nevada called Boulder City.  She started in ballet and tap classes at the young age of four from a basement of a retired dancer from New York City.  She soon took up gymnastics, but it was hard for her since she had such long legs so in 1994 she joined a dance studio called "Dance Etc." , owned by Desy Arnez Jr., son of Lucy from the sit com "I Love Lucy".  She studied a small amount of tap, but focused on a combination class of Jazz and Hip Hop called Fusion.  As a freshman in High School she danced on her high school dance team in Boulder City.  After graduation in 2000 she took a break from life and worked at a ranch in Searchlight Nevada and later moved to Currant Creek Ranch in Wyoming as a Wrangler.  In 2004 she decided to come attend Western Wyoming Community College where she danced with the Desert Dance Theatre for two years and studied under the great Deirdre MacDonald who is a wonderful lady and beautiful dancer.  She received her Associates Degree in Dance and Elementary Education.  She loves to dance, and believes there is no better way to give back than to teach what you love.  She is happily married to her husband Kelly.

Ann Jantz - Choreographer/Instructor

We are very excited to have Ann join our dance family this fall.  Ann brings a diverse background to her work as a dance professional.  She has B.S. and M.F.A. degrees in dance and choreography from Texas Woman's University.  There she took classes and danced with such big names in dance as Nina Weiner, Bill Evans, David Taylor, Loretta Livingston, Deborah Hay and Repertory Dance Theatre.  While working on her degrees, she choreographed and danced for the Radke Dance Gallery, a small professional company of local artists in Dallas.  In between her 2 degrees, Ann took classes, including Graham modern technique, at the University of Utah Modern Dance Department.

Upon completing her master's degree, Ann returned to her hometown, Rock Springs, where she balanced teaching at Western Wyoming Community College with managing her studio, The Dance Lab.  In 1994, she received a Wyoming Arts Council performing arts fellowship for outstanding choreography, and she has been included in the Council's Artists Roster for more than 10 years.  Ann's dance works have been performed in Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, Texas and Colorado.

During a hiatus from teaching and performing, Ann worked as a section editor at the Green River Star newspaper, where she met her husband, Keith.  At this time, she continued choreographing for Desert Dance Theatre at WWCC and produced a concert with fellow dancer, Tara Oldfield, to benefit the YWCA Women's Shelter.  After 8 years in the newspaper business, Ann returned to teaching last year, donating her talents to Holy Spirit Catholic School.  She joins the AIM faculty this year and brings with her the willingness to share her wealth of dance experience.

Ann's resume includes teaching all levels of modern, ballet, jazz and tap, ballroom, dance history and philosophy, choreography, makeup, dance production, costuming and piano technique.  She has also received a number of writing and photography awards from the National Newspaper Association and the Wyoming Press Association.  She has presented workshops at the American College Dance Festival and the Rocky Mountain Theater Association Festivention.
